Taking Stock

August 2, 2015

Wow! The year is more than half over for the Guild. We only have three more meetings left. I feel that this has been a productive year for us. On the minus side, several of our members have had to retire to assisted living homes and now have difficulty getting rides to our meetings. On the plus side however, we have already had two fabulous shows, the Old West Show and the Miniature Works Show. We accomplished getting our EIN number and registering with the State of California and are on the downswing to get our forms filed for our non-profit acceptance by both the IRS and the State.

We still have three great demos planned for August, September and October. Our Fall Open is coming up fast so I hope you are all painting furiously because I’m really looking forward to seeing your new art!

In November we are planning a fundraiser—an art yard sale at Shirley Lindgren’s house. We lost a couple of artists this year and their families generously donated the art stuff they had accumulated to us for a fundraiser. In the latter part of October, we will need help at Shirley’s to sort and price the donated items. If you wish to donate extra stuff to the Guild during the yard sale, please contact Shirley, Myself or Alice to arrange to do so. All donated items must be donated to Clovis Art Guild and any funds from the sales of those items will go to the Guild.

We are also hoping that some of you will see fit to volunteer to serve on next year’s board. We are still in need of a Secretary and someone to take over the Sunshine Chair. Shirley would like someone to help with and learn the Bargain table. Several of us are filling double and sometimes triple duty on some of the chairs. We really need someone to take over the Facebook page and the on-line publicity items, as Glynmary doesn’t like computers much.  Officers and committee heads must be able to make the board meetings and perform the duties of the office. We have descriptions of these duties available if you would like to read through them.

Peer Association And Review Is Important

June 29, 2015

When I started to take my art seriously, I knew that peer group association was important for me to grow as an artist, but finding the right art group to join was a little frustrating.  Why is it so important to associate with other artists? Well, although you can create art in a vacuum, if your art is never evaluated by your peers, you may simply be stuck repeating the same type of art and art subjects at the same skill level forever. Peer groups challenge us to stretch our skills, reach f...

It's Later Than You Think!

May 28, 2015
The Old West Show looked wonderful this year (what littlie I got to see of it!). Thank all of you who helped put it on, and thank Jerome Grimmer for agreeing to be our judge this year.  We had two beautiful sculptures to show off, and we sold a painting right off the receiving floor! Congratulations to Bev Elrod who sold her 1st place-winning swans! The  Miniature show will be here sooner than you think so I hope you are all “thinking small” already, because receiving will be the last Sat...

Here It Comes!

April 2, 2015

The Old West Show is coming up fast and we are going to need a lot of assistance from our members.  We are going to need all of our members to sign up to help with the show and to sit during show hours. Mary Ann Ferstl has agree to understudy Jackie during receiving, but since this is a two-person job,  we sure could use someone to step up and persuade all the artists entering the show to sit at least once. Thursday, we will need members to help log in the entries and runners to put the art...

In 2015

November 8, 2014

Last night we installed our window display at Sierra Vista Mall for October/November. It was so much fun with all the members who participated. And the good news is the display looks fabulous and it only took an hour to set up! On November 13th, we will be putting up a display that will last through January. The mall window gallery is our opportunity for all of us to remind the Clovis/Fresno residents what the Clovis Art Guild gives back to our community and to see the Guild as a cultural a...

Let's Keep In Touch!

September 18, 2014

Wasn’t it wonderful to finally find out John was okay? This is a wakeup call to remind all of us how It is easy for us to lose track of members when we fall ill, especially if our family or close friends don’t know to let the Guild know about it. Please remember to put our Sunshine Chair Sandy Gunn on your list of friends to call so you family will know we worry about you! Sandy’s phone no is 916-4328.

With October coming up we all need to be thinking about officers for 2015. We badl...

Good Friends

July 24, 2014

Creating a “president’s Message” can be difficult; either I have so much to say that I can’t fit it all in, or I struggle with finding something relevant to say! July was a hard month for our members. At the time of this publication, John Roberts who has been a mainstay of the club for years is still recuperating in the hospital from ulcers, and Mary Lou Griggs, another long-time member was operated on for heart surgery and is still recovering. We also heard that Frank Sidoti who is...

Hands-On-Mini-Workshop!

June 24, 2014

We had a very good turnout for our hands-on with Claudia last month and all participants seemed to have such a good time that everyone stayed late! This month we persuaded Sue Porter to step away from watercolors and demonstrate in oil for us.

We will also be holding our award ceremony for our Miniature Fine Art Show during the meeting, and I hope that all of you will turn out and support your friends and fellow members by coming to see them receive their awards! On Thursday, July 31st at ...

The Old West Show Was Great!

May 8, 2014

We had a fabulous Old West Show this year! Thank you’s go out to all of our members (and members husbands!) who stepped in to help. We had over 34 Old West entries! And a show Total of 84, which is a big improvement over the last show. We had enough entries to fill all our categories except Sculpture/Mixed Media, which we had to combine with our next lowest entry category, drawing.  At shows, we do try to avoid combining categories if at all possible, but sometimes it is unavoidable. We a...

Lets Rodeo!

March 28, 2014

The Old West Show is coming up fast and we are going to need a lot of assistance from our members.  This year will be the 100th year anniversary of the Rodeo and the Rodeo Association is going to begin sponsoring the prize for the 1st place winner of the Old West category once again.  Another piece of good news is this year we are on the calendar the Rodeo Assoc. sent to the Fresno Bee. Watch for announcements of our show also on the community calendars of TV stations KMPH (26) and COZY (7....
